Dealer convicted

-

An unemployed Timaru man told police he sold drugs to support his own, $200-a-day methamphetamine habit, the Timaru District Court heard on Tuesday.

Nathan Daniel Bloomfield, 25, was appearing on charges of possession of methamphetamine for supply, supplying cannabis, wilful damage, and resisting police.

According to the summary of facts, Bloomfield’s cellphone was monitored by police, who discovered that between June 4 and June 26 this year, he tried to sell methamphetamine and cannabis via text and social media.

On August 3 Bloomfield was stopped by police driving on Tawa St, and resisted police attempts to arrest him.

When he was put into a police car he tried to exit through the rear, right hand passenger door of the vehicle.

He then kicked the police car door, shattering its window.

Bloomfield told police he bought and sold methamphetamine and cannabis to support his $200-a-day methamphetamine habit.

Judge Joanna Maze convicted Bloomfield and remanded him on bail until November 23, but told him being granted bail was no indication of the final sentence that would be imposed. ‘‘The fact I am allowing you to remain at liberty is not indicative of the likely outcome.’’ Other matters: Zye Christopher Morgan, 31, a labourer, of no fixed abode; threatening behaviour, two breaches of court release conditions - convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within six months if called upon, and ordered to pay reparations of $200.
