Cup start in balance for Lizzie
Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman will have two leading Group I Caulfield Cup chances, while a start for another member of their Cambridge team next Saturday is in the balance.
Bonneval and Jon Snow further boosted their prospects for the A$3 million feature with strong showings in the Caulfield Stakes on Saturday, but whether Lizzie L’Amour joins them is yet to be decided.
The Zabeel mare turned in a below-par performance when unplaced in Sunday’s Listed Cranbourne Cup.
‘‘She got a long way back and never got into the race,’’ Baker said. ‘‘She hasn’t had a lot of luck in her three runs over here.
‘‘She pulled up well, so I’ll speak to the owners about whether we pay up for the Cup. There are a lot of other options to discuss for her.’’
Lizzie L’Amour was a first-up seventh in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes where she suffered an atrial fibrillation, then ran well for sixth in the Stocks Stakes.
Meanwhile former New Zealand apprentice now Melbournebased jockey Michael Dee has picked up the ride on the Darren GARRARD’S HORSE AND HOUND STAKES 4.10 Weir-trained Amelie’s Star in the Cup if she gets a run. Amelie’s Star is on the borderline of gaining a start having won The Bart Cummings at Flemington.
Dee rode his first Group I winner when Foundry won The Metropolitan at Randwick on September 30.
New Zealand mare Bonneval and the Weir-trained Humidor are leading the Caulfield Cup betting.
Weir is likely to have three runners in the race with Japanese horse Admire Deus also entered.
