‘‘Those milestones you prob- ably reflect on more at the end of your career.

‘‘When I started out, I thought I could have a pretty successful career in ODI cricket. I didn’t think I’d play 200 games, but hopefully there’s still a few more years left in me that I can continue to improve and can score a few more runs.’’

The 33-year-old still has a desire to get better.

‘‘I think you just try and improve in all areas of the game

‘‘It was a good year last year – you don’t have a year that you can’t beat; I think there’s still room in my game to improve.’’

Taylor has been in good form all summer with the bat and had a number of handy ODI knocks versus the West Indies and Pakistan. ‘‘And my catching. ‘‘I should have had that operation three or four years earlier,’’ he said in reference to surgery on his eye in December 2016 to have a growth removed.

New Zealand are seeking a record-breaking 11th straight win in all formats at Seddon Park on Tuesday but Taylor said that hadn’t been mentioned once by the team.

‘‘I think you’ve just got to play what’s in front of you and not look too far ahead.’’

Despite not being wanted for the Black Caps Twenty20 side, Taylor has entered the lucrative IPL draft and hopes his performanc­es in the competitio­n in the past with a host of different teams will be looked upon favourably. ‘‘Yep – I put my name through. ‘‘I’ve had seven or eight years in the past ... you just put your name down, whether you get picked up or not.

‘‘You want to play as many games for your country as possible.

‘‘Twenty20, if it’s there, you want to play. If not, you’ve just got to score as many runs and hopefully when there’s an opportunit­y you take it when it comes.’’
