‘Full house’ sign expected at Mt Smart

-

Close to 22,000 tickets have been sold for tonight’s NRL blockbuster in Auckland.

Wests Tigers take on the Melbourne Storm, followed by the Warriors clashing with the Cowboys at Mt Smart Stadium.

By yesterday afternoon only a few thousand tickets were still available. The last 1400 tickets will only be for sitting on the North Bank and the club are preparing for the games to be a sellout

There’s a story doing the rounds that when one player turned up late to training during preseason, he was forced to watch from the sidelines fitness trainer as Alex Corvo flogged the rest of the team twice as usual hard as punishment.

Watching his team-mates being put through hell, just because of his poor timekeeping, no doubt ensured this player is on time from now on.

‘‘There is a simple method being applied,’’ George said, ‘‘which is work bloody hard and you’ll get what you deserve, if you manager Aaron Lawton said tickets had been selling well for a while, but had been going like hotcakes since last weekend.

‘‘We put it on sale before Christmas and had a lot of people pre purchase tickets,’’ Lawton said.

‘‘Before the game last Saturday [against the Roosters], we had sold 200 tickets that day, there was a rush of 700 in the few hours after it.

‘‘It hasn’t really let up since then and there’s an incredible atmosphere here at the moment.’’ don’t, we’ve got no time for you at this club and that goes for everyone.

‘‘We’ve got to be proactive in chasing our dreams and setting up our future.

‘‘It starts with the culture and expectations, but most importantly it starts with accountability.’’

So where to from here? It’s been a better start to the season than almost everyone expected and a loss to the Cowboys tonight could bring everyone back to earth.

But it’s clear the Warriors are on the right path and winning a Premiership is something that does one day seem achievable.

‘‘The improving never stops,’’ George said. ‘‘Never once will we sit on our hands and say we’ve done it.

‘‘If we ever win the Premiership, I’m sure I’ll have a few beers and enjoy the occasion, but I’ll be straight back into it to win the next one.

‘‘This is not rebuilding, this is not a journey. We’re here, we’re in it.

‘‘I’m not going to say it will take three years or five years. But personally, I can’t see why we can’t win the Premiership. As long as we’re having a go every time.’’
