Double delight from double billing

-

The South Canterbury Drama League’s decision to run a double billing for its junior section annual show was a good one.

Seussical Kids features 45 young performers between 8 and 13 years. These children would not have had a shot at a pinning down a lead role - or possibly even a speaking role, had they been cast alongside the older juniors in one large show.

And that would have a been a real shame.

People will seriously struggle to make it to the end of the show without cracking a large smile - these are some very adorable and talented kids.

It’s cute, it’s vibrant and energetic.

A couple of standout performances were the Sour Kangaroo and her Baby Kangaroo - don’t be fooled by her petite size, her voice is anything but small.

Seussical runs for about 30 minutes ahead of Hairspray Jr which blew me away.

The 45 13-18-year-olds have nailed the 60s tone of the show - the costumes, the singing, the dancing was all fabulous and completely on point.

These teens have spent hours and hours working on their performance, and you can tell. A very polished, slick show.

The opening song Good Morning Baltimore was a real ‘wow’ moment and Mama I’m a Big Girl Now was really enjoyed.

Shout out to Macy Shields in lead role Tracy Turnblad - loved it. Would see again, 10/10. The show opens on Thursday night in Timaru’s Theatre Royal.
