October 31 – Timaru Herald asks Alpine Energy shareholders whether a share sell down is on the cards. No-one will confirm or deny. November 1 – Timaru Herald publishes ‘‘Alpine Energy share sell down on the cards?’’ following claims TDHL is looking to sell shares. TDHL chairman and Timaru mayor Damon Odey issues a carefully worded statement in which he neither confirms nor denies any such plan. November 7 – TDC issues statement ‘‘Financial future proofing aim of Alpine Energy sale’’ in which it confirms TDHL proposal to sell shares. November 8 – Stuff poll on whether TDHL should sell shares attracts 1400 votes - 74 per cent vote against share sale and 26 per cent vote it is time to sell. November 8 – Flagged developments including proposed port expansion and heritage hub ruled out as being potential investment options if shares are sold. November 9 – Odey fires back at claims TDHL and the council has behaved secretly around proposal.
