Baroque ensemble visit
Timaru will be visited by an international baroque ensemble next week. The group will perform on period instruments, which, although now commonplace in Europe, are not often heard in New Zealand. The instruments are modelled on those used in the original performances of the Baroque Period (1600-1750) and are the instruments for which the repertoire was specifically written. The programme will feature the music of Bach, Handel, Vivaldi and include Pachelbel’s Canon. The show on Wednesday will be held at the Aigantighe Art Gallery at 7pm.
