Bangladesh star to miss one-day series

-

Classy all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will miss Bangladesh’s ODI series against the Black Caps this month due to a fractured finger.

The 31-year-old, who is No 2 in the ICC’s ODI all-rounder rankings, suffered the injury during the final of the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament on Saturday.

The Dhaka Dynamites captain was hit on the left ring finger by a short delivery from Sri Lanka international Thisara Perera, and was dismissed off the next ball for 3, as his side lost by 17 runs to the Comilla Victorians.

A post-match X-ray confirmed a fracture of the finger. A physician said the affected area would have to be immobilised for around three weeks.

That would seemingly place Shakib in doubt for at least some of the threematch test series too, which begins in Hamilton on February 28.

Shakib has played 195 ODIs, with a batting average of 35.07 and a bowling average of 29.68.

Bangladesh have lost all 10 of their previous ODIs against the Black Caps in New Zealand.
