Rock & Hop hits the road to Geraldine

-

Grab your deck chair, fire up the barbie and get your own street party going. Watch and wave to hundreds and hundreds of cars, caravans and motorbikes from all over the country as they cruise by in a grand parade of vehicles.

The friendly folk of Geraldine welcome the 2019 Rock & Hop participants to their town this Friday, March 15.

With the large entourage parking close to the town centre, there’ll be opportunities to see a magnificent array vehicles up close, chat to owners, and enjoy live music on the village green.

Friday night’s Main Street Cruise starts from Caroline Bay and cruises up and down Timaru’s main street before heading out to Pleasant Point and Temuka.

Be part of the cheering enthusiastic crowds lining the streets to see up to 700 vehicles pass by. Vote for your favourite one at the Saturday Gala Day.

Judging for the various classes takes place on Saturday. Caravans, motorbikes, hot rods, cars from the around the world, muscle cars, vintage cars, cars that showcase the best under hood and best paint jobs will be up for awards.

Generous sponsors have also donated substantial prizes for the general public.

‘‘We’ve got different competitions running throughout Saturday’s gala day in Caroline Bay with some great prizes,’’ says Jeanna Munro of South Canterbury Hospice.

While you’re there you can enter the Lucky Ticket Draw. Simply buy a $10 ticket and go in the draw to win some amazing prizes, including $10,000 cash, a $1000 mystery weekend, and two $500 Pak’n’Save vouchers.

The draw will be held after the hop’s main prize-giving. Ticket holders are not required to be present, but are strongly encouraged to hang around for the fun.

The marketing and lots of events team at Hospice South Canterbury have worked hard to grow the Caroline Bay Rock & Hop event, now in its third year.

Good event management, local hospitality, picturesque scenery and support of a worthy cause are big drawcards.

Cars, motorbikes and caravans from as far afield as Auckland and the Coromandel will be making the trek to South Canterbury.

‘‘We’re very fortunate Timaru has got behind event,’’ says Munro.

The long steady lines of hot rods, street machines and classic cars seen in previous years will be even bigger this year. that this
