Flight: Opening of the exhibition at 5.30pm today, artist’s illustrate­d talk at 2pm tomorrow at the South Canterbury Museum on Perth St. An artistic account of the life of Temuka’s Alfred William Surridge, who emigrated to New Zealand in 1875, by his great-granddaugh­ter. The Salon: Exhibition at the Aigantighe Art Gallery on Wai-iti Rd. Paintings from the gallery’s collection from the mid-19th century to early-20th century. Runs until April 14.

Painted Memories: Exhibition at the South Canterbury Museum on Perth St. Artworks from the museum’s collection depicting the region’s past. Runs until April 28. TODAY

Salmon Run: 10am-4pm, starting at the bridge on Te Maiharoa Rd, Glenavy. An annual fundraiser for the Glenavy School Library. Justice of the Peace: 10ammidday every Saturday at the Timaru Library. JPs available for the certifying and witnessing of documents. No charge.

Waimate Museum Open Day: 11am-3pm at the museum on Shearman St, Waimate. A steam engine will be running and children’s games, stalls, and a sausage sizzle will be available. Race meeting: Midday-4pm at the Waimate Trotting Club on High St. A $1000 prize at the club’s annual race meeting. Free entry. Triathlon/duathlon: Midday-4pm at Boland Park, Waimate. A swimbike-run and bike-run for children aged 5 and over. Race fee is $10 for under 16s, $20 for over 16s.
