Think outside the square

IKNOW it’s easy to say when you’ve already had the meringue, but if I were to get get married now, I’d probably pick something off-the-rack and creative.

If you’re not the Big White Dress type or if you don’t like the idea of shelling out thousands for a one-off outfit, here are some on-trend and fabulous ideas for wedding fashion you’ll fall in love with.

JUMP INTO A JUMPSUIT

The jumpsuit is big news this year and for good reason – it’s the perfect match of stylish and comfy.

Plus when you wear one colour or pattern top to bottom, it makes you look super tall, and tall usually reads as elegant; exactly what you’re aiming for on your big day.

And you can wear your fabulous jumpsuit again: date night, party guest, fancy night club; check check check!

MIX AND MATCH

The perfect fit for laid-back brides is the skirt and top combo.

Pair a T-shirt with a short tutu to channel that classic ballerina look or a sparkly singlet and long tulle skirt for barefoot elegance.

These are great wardrobe staples you can mix and match after the wedding to create endless new party outfits.

In fact I’ve decided here and now that silk chiffon was not made to hang in a closet and am cutting up my wedding dress to make two fabulous pieces!

GO COCKTAIL

When it comes to easy elegance, you can’t go wrong with a classic cocktail dress.

Pick something light and airy or bright and floral for a garden wedding and something moody like emerald, midnight blue or burgundy for an evening one.

But do forgo the little black dress on this occasion: it’s your moment to shine and black is not going to do it for you.

PICK A PANT SUIT

Dresses aren’t everyone’s cup of tea and I don’t think I’ve ever seen as many oh-socool pant suits on the red carpet before, so why not translate them to bridal fashion?

Give a cheeky wink to classic bridal wear by donning a white suit, to groom’s fashion by wearing a tux, or pick something glitzy and sequinned for maximum glam.

GO RETRO

Rockabilly style has been in for yonks now, and it’s easy to see why it’s not going away.

Inspired by dressed from the 1950s, when curves were celebrated, they’re a match made in heaven for those who want to rock what their mama gave ‘em.

Add some colourful shoes and a perky fascinator and breeze down that aisle in style!
