One-time SC actress lands big roles
Actress Morgan Bradley, who grew up in Geraldine, will be starring in her first documentary role on Sky TV this month, telling the history of American food empress Marjorie Merriweather Post.
‘‘I’ve always known I wanted to be an actor. My mother was a musical theatre actress and I loved watching her,’’ Bradley, who moved to Hollywood in 2017, said.
After leaving school, Bradley joined the Hagley Theatre company in Christchurch and in 2011 scored her first TV role: Kidzone with Morgan on TVNZ.
Since then she has performed in theatre, drama, docudramas and shorts but The Food That Built America is her first documentary role.
‘‘I was approached to audition for this role by the writer and creator – he told me ‘I remind him of her [Marjorie Merriweather
Post].’’
Despite being approached for the role, she still had to audition alongside thousands of girls.
‘‘After I was chosen for the role they mentioned there were some ‘big names’ who I was up against too, so that felt pretty special. I did a lot of research before I auditioned for her and I was stunned by what an incredible woman she was.’’
In the early 20th century, Post inherited her father’s cereal company and through a series of acquisitions grew it into the General Foods Company (now Kraft General Foods).
Bradley has just finished shooting a feature film called The Aerialist in which she plays the lead alongside star choreographer Dreya Weber.
She recently played lead in a film called Queen Bee, is shooting a big budget film in Korea set for release in 2020 and is ‘‘pretty excited’’ about an upcoming project.
