Family reunites with Henry

- Samesh Mohanlall

A Timaru family left heartbroken when their dog disappeared during last Wednesday’s hailstorm have expressed gratitude to the many people who helped find their pet.

The Jeboult-Jones’ 2-year-old sydney silky/cairn terrier cross Henry, was found on Saturday afternoon, three days after he bolted from their Avenue Rd yard where he was playing when the storm struck.

‘‘I would like to thank the hundreds of people who have given us support, shared our Facebook posts, and walked with us to try and find Henry,’’ Hugh Jeboult-Jones said.

‘‘To all of these people you were incredible.’’

Jeboult-Jones, wife Medith, and their daughters Audrey, 15, and Hannah, 5, are also relieved Henry has been returned safely to them.

‘‘We cannot put into words how relieved we are. We endured three days of sleepless nights, three days

of stress, constant driving around and not eating.

‘‘I was resigned to the fact that we will never see him again.’’

Jeboult-Jones said Henry jumped their one-and-a-halfmetre fence to get out.

‘‘He was found on Otipua Rd next to a property which has at least five or six dogs inside the fence.

‘‘It was the property of Sue Palmer who runs Hair Off the Dog Grooming.’’

Henry was taken directly to a veterinarian as he was limping and seemed to be in pain, Jeboult-Jones said.

‘‘At the vets we were given a further fright because we heard crying and squealing coming from the room he was taken to. That turned out to be fine, he was just having the troublesome nail cut off.’’

Curiously, half an hour after the family fetched Henry from Otipua Rd, they received a call from a friend who said he had seen the dog at the exact same place.

‘‘We will get him a bottle of wine and Sue will get a big hug and thank you.’’

Audrey was on a school camp when the dog went missing.

‘‘Henry sleeps with Audrey and she was very, very traumatised when she heard he was missing.

‘‘Hannah is a bit young and does not understand what missing means. She thought he had gone for a visit somewhere and would come back.’’

Henry was one of five dogs reported missing to Timaru District Council since the hail storm. No further updates were available on the other dogs yesterday.
