Warriors ‘will only win two more’

- George Vlotis

NRL guru Phil Gould has made the audacious call that the New Zealand Warriors won’t win more than four games this season.

Despite a 37-26 win over the North Queensland Cowboys on Friday night, Gould was less than convinced by the Kiwis’ patchy form and said he’d be surprised if the club notched more than four victories come round 20.

That means, that with two wins already under their belt this year, the Warriors will not win more than two games in the remaining 15-rounds of competition, according to Gould.

‘‘I think they’re going to be up and down like this all year, depending on the quality of their opposition,’’ Gould told Wide World of Sports’ The Final Whistle. ‘‘They’ve had two wins against two teams that have performed pretty poorly against them, and in between they were beaten 26-0 by the Panthers.

‘‘Given they’re over here in Australia and they’re under such difficulty I think we’re going to see wild fluctuations in their form.

‘‘I’d probably limit them to about four wins this year, being realistic. But the game appreciates what they’re doing, we wouldn’t have a competition.’’ That invited an interjection from Cronulla Sharks great Paul Gallen who was gobsmacked by the legendary coach’s suggestion.

It’s certainly a lofty prediction considering the strike power that was on display on Friday evening.

Time will tell, whether Gould’s crystal ball has 20-20 vision, but for now the Warriors will be up against it when they travel to Bankwest Stadium to face a red-hot Latrell Mitchell and the South Sydney Rabbitohs on Friday. NINE
