Waimate stars in Bell’s new single

- Joanne Holden

Kaylee Bell’s latest music video serves as a ‘‘keepsake’’ of her home town, Waimate.

Lockdown kept the Aucklandbased musician from home for six months – so the moment restrictions on domestic travel were lifted, Bell hopped on a plane with her ‘‘anthem of coming home’’ and headed home to film a music video.

‘‘The synergy of the song and clip feels very relevant for the current situation,’’ Bell said.

The new single, Home , released tomorrow.

Its video features Bell’s friends and family, as well as Waimate landmarks including the town’s mural-adorned silos, White Horse monument, and town clock.

‘‘People who live in Waimate will recognise these places and that’s really important to me.’’

Another South Canterbury location the crew hit over the is four-day shoot was Tekapo.

‘‘I really wanted to capture the South Island as a whole and Tekapo was great for that. The weather was beautiful but if we did it a week later, we would have been under a foot of snow.’’

Bell wrote the ‘‘real and authentic’’ song with Simon Oscroft, of Kiwi rock band Midnight Youth.

‘‘He also produces for Disney in LA [Los Angeles, United States] and he’s staying with us.

‘‘I wanted to make a keepsake video, so we just tried to write something like an anthem of coming home.

‘‘I want to do an out-take video of everything with my friends and family we couldn’t get into a three-minute video.’’

The song will stream on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, as well as feature on Air NZ flights.

Bell, unable to get gigs in lockdown, has been juggling working on her music with her job as a kindergarten teacher.
