NZ could get Origin match

-

An NRL official has said Auckland’s Eden Park ‘‘makes sense’’ as a venue for a State of Origin rugby league game if a proposed Adelaide fixture is canned. Australian officials are seriously looking at taking a match in the popular series overseas for only the second time in the event’s 40-year history. Adelaide is in line to host the first match in the 2020 series on November 4 with the NRL and South Australian Government due to make a final call in a fortnight. A Daily Telegraph report says the NRL has an alternate plan to take the game to Auckland, Perth or Sydney. A senior NRL official told the Telegraph: ‘‘New Zealand makes sense. We’ll certainly look at it.’’ Eden Park can hold up to 60,000 fans, with temporary seating.
