Dutch rider at the double
Dutch rider Anna van der Breggen made it two wins out of two at the road cycling world championships in Italy, adding the women’s road race title yesterday to her time trial gold medal. Van der Breggen became the first rider to win both races at the same championships since Jeannie Longo in 1995. ‘‘It’s incredible,’’ she said. New Zealand young guns Niamh FisherBlack (20) and Mikayla Harvey (22) finished 15th and 22nd resepectively, with team-mate Georgia Williams 46th in a brutal race which saw only 105 of the 142 riders finish.
