Club President Greg Ryan said the competitiveness among racers during the championship was “next level”, and the highlight of the competition.
“It was an awesome three days of racing and there was such good competitiveness among all of the racers,” Ryan said.
“Everyone gave it their all. The spectator benches were full and it was really good to see people coming out and supporting us.”
Over the three days, the kart club raised $1350 for Hospice South Canterbury through donations.
Ryan said it had been good to see people of all ages taking part.
The youngsters who took part in the midget class of the competition, the youngest being a five-year-old, were the future of the sport, Ryan said.
“Like Hayden Paddon. He started off with grass karts.”
Ryan said the fun was not over yet as preparations were underway for the South Canterbury Grass Kart Club Championships which will be held on April 28.
“We are looking forward to the club champs and it’s a great event for us with our members coming from as far as Christchurch. It’s going to be another good day of racing.”
Ryan said the Cartwright family, on whose land the club races, had been
flowerseeds amazing to the club over the years. Sadly a theft left a sour note, and thehe club asked the public to keep an eye out for a kart and trailer that was stolen overnight on Sunday.
The trailer was an Elite caged trailer with the registration number - N716P. The grass kart was 507C with distinctive stickers.
The trailer with the kart was last seen on Monday heading north being towed by a white Toyota Hiace van.
The list of winners from each category can be found on the Speed Hive website.
