Shows screening in the Food For Thought series are:
NOMA: MY PERFECT STORM
(February 1) – A look at chef Rene Redzepi who runs Noma, Copenhagen’s highprofile two-Michelin-star restaurant. Peta says, “The guy is fascinating technically but I didn’t find him such a sympathetic character. His food is sophisticated. But he does have the best restaurants in the world so he does have a lot of pressure on him.”
JUST EAT IT: A FOOD WASTE STORY
(February 8) – Filmmakers Jen Rustemeyer and Grant Baldwin take a look at the amount of food thrown away, both by individuals and supermarkets in North America. Peta says, “I thought that was interesting, how we can change all that ourselves in little ways.”
FINDING GASTON
(February 15) – Peruvian chef Gaston Acurio is a well-known personality in his home country who helped create a sense of pride in the local cuisine. Here he talks food with fisherman, farmers and school children. Peta says, “He’s not just cooking food. He’s actually trying to make his whole country happy. I’ve always thought food is love and so I really liked what he was doing.”
CITY OF GOLD
(February 22) – Los Angeles food critic Jonathan Gold reviews an array of food trucks, diners and budget establishments in various neighbourhoods. Peta says, “He wasn’t so interesting but the people he was writing about were very interesting because they cared just as much as a three-star (Michelin) chef. They really did. They were sharing their culture and doing their very best and that’s all you really want from good food, even if it’s only fish and chips.”
