Coro Street complaints here to stay
Regarding the disappointment and disgust with the reply from TVNZ about
Coronation Street viewers wanting decent times and catch-up episodes scheduled on TVNZ 1, I think we are all living in a dream world where things are fair and equal for all. Obviously the TVNZ programmers were not taught, like I was as a child, that respect and compassion are traits that we should show to everyone we come in contact with. We were taught to have respect for parents, teachers, the local bobby, shop owners, our friends and, most importantly, ourselves when making decisions that could affect someone else. These programmers do not have that respect for the view of a large group of others. I started watching
Coro as a teenager in 1964 and have been an avid fan since, along with an enormous number of people who live in New Zealand. Unfortunately, I feel that those in power at TVNZ do what they want to suit themselves and to hell with the rest of the population. So many of the programmes that are scheduled have contents along the lines of ‘I will do what I like, for me and no one else’, ‘I will use whatever language I wish to’ and ‘I don’t care if I bare all to the world’ – be it giving birth, sleeping with someone on a reality series, marrying a stranger or whatever. This is not real life – the majority of us do not live like this or wish to. TVNZ, could you not appoint a more suitable candidate to the position of programmer and start thinking about the group of New Zealanders who use the TV for company and entertainment? Take note of the complaints you receive and start taking them seriously. We will not go away. We will keep complaining and writing to the
TV Guide until someone has the decency to listen to us. Ann Devlin (Upper Hutt)
