Killer Kylie battles guilt

Kylie Platt is being plagued by guilt after killing drug-dealing Callum. So how will she cope under the pressure?

-

Actress Paula Lane was shocked when she learned her Coronation Street character Kylie Platt was to become a killer. But now she admits to being fascinated about what will happen to Kylie.

“I’m more intrigued about how the heck they (the Coro writers) are going to get me out of this, if they can,” Paula says. “If they can’t, then it’s more drama. There’s scope for numerous different endings so we’ll just have to wait and see what the writers come up with.”

Kylie killed drug-dealing Callum by hitting him over the head with a wrench. Kylie resorted to such desperate measures only in a bid to rescue Sarah Platt who was being attacked by Callum.

“Kylie did what she felt she had to do at the time and I still think she stands by that,” says Paula. “There’s a lot of guilt there, more than regret.”

Although that guilt is eating away at her, Kylie knows she has to try to block her mind to it and continue with ordinary life the best she can.

“She (Kylie) is doing all right, if you can describe it as that. After being overwhelmed by the initial horror she’s trying to move on. She’s trying to get on with family life ... Kylie is keeping afloat for the kids but it’s always there on her mind.”

Not surprisingly, Callum’s death has put a strain on all relationships in the Platt household.

“Things are very tense between Kylie and David,” says Paula. “Although they’re ticking along on the surface the marriage is very strained ... Kylie is really weighed down by her guilt and David hasn’t even given her a moment to process that and deal with it. It’s just been ‘Move on’ and she’s finding it harder to move on.

“He supported her with covering it up (the death) but she doesn’t feel supported emotionally.

“Kylie has let David take the reins and she hasn’t been allowed to grieve – grieve for the death of Max’s dad but also grieve for what she’s done because she is tarnished now. She’s a murderer and she needed time to process that.”
