Put on your glad rags
I was aware that times were tough worldwide but I didn’t realise just how desperate things are in Mother England until I watched The X Factor UK (TVNZ 1, Fri/Sat, 7.30pm) on Friday, October 13. It appears that the contestants find it necessary to rummage through rag bags to have trousers to wear on the show. These garments have obviously seen better days and it is with great sadness that I realise the extent of this youthful poverty. The distress of their situation is evident too in their loud and howling performances – a sound that I am led to believe is these days considered singing. It’s tough going for them all right, as it seems clear that the caterwaulers are only likely to get through to the next level of the competition if they receive the magic words, “I like you”, from Simon Cowell.
