What rubbish

Is anyone else disgusted by adverts which show people sweeping rubbish off a table on to the floor and a sportsman throwing a used takeaway cup he has just finished drinking from on to the playing field? How can we expect young people to learn about using rubbish bins when examples of adults on TV are displaying such loutish behaviour – especially a sportsman in this sports-mad country? I am an 80-year-old woman with arthritic/mobility problems, but every time I go to the shops, using my walker, I am upset by the litter all along the pavement. It shouldn’t be up to old people like me, who can’t bend down, to be considering taking my ‘pick-up-stick’ and a plastic bag to tidy up after litter louts. Advertisers, start setting a better example as this is not ‘cool’ behaviour. Julia Clyde (Pukekohe)
