EASTER MONDAY

Safe Haven TVNZ 2, noon
Starring Josh Duhamel, Julianne Hough. Romantic drama about a woman on the run from her past who finds refuge in a small seaside community, the likes of which exist only in the minds of Hollywood filmmakers. It is based on a book by Nicholas Sparks, so don’t expect any surprises. The man who gave us The Notebook and Dear John sticks to the tried-and-true formula of ‘the power of love and the meaning of sacrifice’. If you have enjoyed his other work you will love this but otherwise you will see it as cloyingly sentimental with wooden acting and impossibly good-looking leads. ★★
10,000 Days Three, 12.40pm Starring John Schneider, Peter Wingfield. After a comet strike sends Earth into an ice age, two family factions battle to survive in this lame post-apocalyptic thriller. ★★
Alex & Eve Starring Richard Brancatisano, Andrea Demetriades. TVNZ 1, 1pm
Feelgood Australian movie about a Greek Orthodox teacher who
falls for a Lebanese Muslim lawyer. Based on a long-running stage show, it is funny and gently challenging in a cultural sense. ★★★★
Misconduct Sky Premiere, 8.30pm Starring Josh Duhamel, Anthony Hopkins. This less-than-absorbing drama about shady goings-on at a big pharmaceutical company could well hit any real-life counterpart’s sales of sleeping pills. Not even Anthony Hopkins as the borderline psychopathic boss can save this one. The main problem is a rambling sub-plot with a ludicrous ending. ★★
Burnt TVNZ 1, 8.30pm
Starring Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller. John Wells never really seems to know whether he is directing a drama or a comedy in this half-baked story of a disgraced chef who sets out to rebuild his life in London. Bradley Cooper seems to be channelling the film’s executive producer (the potty-mouthed Gordon Ramsay) as the chef flambéing his way to redemption while failing to set the film alight. ★★
The Lookout Prime, 8.30pm Starring Jeff Daniels, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. A high school sports star with brain damage after a car crash becomes an unwilling bank robber in this tight and emotionally satisfying drama. Gordon-Levitt convincingly plays a difficult role and a clever plot will keep viewers engaged. ★★★★
Air Force One TVNZ Duke, 9pm
Starring Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman. Big-budget, well-cast action thriller in which the US President – played by a butt-kicking Harrison Ford – and staff are hijacked mid-flight by murderous terrorists, led by Gary Oldman in suitably cold-blooded, bad guy form. ★★★
