Oceans 8
Starring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett. Director Gary Ross.
A female version of the Oceans’ franchise is more than welcome in this age of male-driven storylines, yet poor pacing and silly plot points ruin an overall enjoyable film. It follows the machinations of Debbie Ocean, the sister of George Clooney’s supposedly deceased Danny Ocean, who, after being released from prison, decides to pull off one last crazy heist before running into the sunset. For the most part it’s an action-packed, slickly sexy, fun ride but it lacks the charismatic charm of Clooney’s three outings. It works on some levels, thanks to the talented Bullock and Blanchett, but a little more character development would have gone a long way.
