Time for Campbell to leave Breakfast

-

I agree with the two people from Tauranga, writing about John Campbell (Mr Telly, January 4-10). He is dreadful on Breakfast (TVNZ 1, weekdays) and thinks he is a comedian, but is not. He is so unprofessional and walks off the set often before the show goes to the ads, interrupts and talks over the person doing the weather, stutters and stammers, almost hits Hayley in the face sometimes when waving his arms around and has a potty mouth as well, which might be OK in some cases later at night, but not on a Breakfast show. I’m sure some of the people he interviews are embarrassed at times, as he thanks them three of four times, and says to everyone, “We really appreciate you coming in” just as many times. He could take a leaf out of Simon Dallow’s book, and Chris Chang’s too. John Campbell has to go. I now turn over to The AM Show (on Three), but that is not much better.

Jane (Napier)

I wish Mr Telly writers would stop being so critical of TV presenters. They are all just doing their jobs and doing the best they can. I’m sure none of you critics could do any better.

Stop The Moaning (New Plymouth)

Starring Sophie Nielsen, Corrine Foxx. Director Johannes Roberts.

This loose tie-in to the first 47 Meters Down feels like it has bitten off more than it can chew. It’s basically a scare-filled thriller that looks good but feels hollow. It follows four teenage divers as they explore a submerged Mayan city only to discover the sunken ruins are a hunting ground for sharks. You can almost guess the rest – air supply running low, labyrinth of caves and tunnels, seemingly no way out... Basically it’s just a piece of shark-related silliness (even if the shark in question happens to be blind) stretching credulity to the limits. One for a rainy day.
