TV a good companion during lockdown

-

Lockdown has been interesting. We humans react in different ways to new and different circumstances. My husband and I were the only ones in our bubble and over the four weeks we became closer and the TV was our close companion. Every morning we switched on TV3 to watch The AM Show. We learnt how the Covid-19 virus was spreading and all the news of other countries. We also found ourselves laughing at the funny pictures other folk were posting on screen of their silly antics to whittle away their boredom. On Good Friday, we settled down to watch Go Further South on Prime. The programme began at 7.30am and 12 hours later at 7.30pm it finished. What an absolute delight this was. We were on a boat leaving Bluff and heading for Antarctica. The birds, the sea, the scenery were just incredible and no sound except the waves splashing on the side of the boat. The film crew did an amazing job. A comical moment for us during this lockdown was when I was concentrating on what someone was saying on TV and my husband kept chatting to me, making it difficult to hear the TV. So I grabbed the remote and unconsciously pointed it at him while pushing up the volume… I wondered why it was not working? Well, we had a good laugh.

I want to praise Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and the Director of Health, Dr Ashley Bloomfield, for taking the time and effort to speak at Parliament to the nation during the Covid-19 lockdown. I have been watching a lot of TV, including the 1 News specials, to fill in my days. Dr Bloomfield and Jacinda Ardern have both done a great job during the lockdown.
