Celebrities reveal their favourite Kiwi songs.

Antonia Prebble, Westside My favourite Kiwi song is Message To My Girl by Split Enz. It doesn’t actually have any particular significance, I just think it is so beautiful and arresting. Whenever I hear it I always have to stop what I’m doing and listen to it. The words are so moving and evocative. It’s just lovely. to my early teens singing along to the cassette player. When they played Big Day Out in 2008, I even left Rage Against The Machine early to make sure I was front of crowd for Supergroove.

Amanda Gillies, The AM Show The heartfelt long song Not Given Lightly by Chris Knox is definitely my favourite Kiwi song. I love that it’s so specifically written for his then partner Barbara, referring to their children “John and Liesha’s mother”. The beat, the lyrics, the honesty, the love, it’s simply magic.

Samantha Hayes, Newshub I would have to pick the Kiwi anthem Melting Pot by Annie Crummer et al. The 1988 hit by the all-female powerhouse group When The Cat’s Away is impossible not to sing along to and because we sang it at school assembly I know all the words.

Kanoa Lloyd, The Project Sway by Bic Runga. It’s a perfect, timeless, melancholy pop song that I know every word to. I feel so lucky that I grew up with a beautiful Chinese-M ori (Runga’s mother is Chinese-Malaysian) woman all over music TV and the radio. I have no musical talent whatsoever so I had to do telly, but she’s still an absolute inspiration.
