“One memory that’ll always stick with me is from the Bermuda campaign, when I was working as the Australia correspondent in Sydney. Oracle’s Australian skipper Jimmy Spithill was still very much public enemy number one in New Zealand, given he led the comeback against Team NZ in San Fran. He grew up an hour away up the coast, so I went to visit his hometown to find out more about him – and ended up chatting to one of his heroes at the local yacht club, and he certainly had plenty of stories to tell.”
