Key hits a high note
A 174-point haul to Joyner Key was the outstanding individual feat of the Upper Hutt Rams’ 2016 season.
Key gathered 127 points in the 13 Swindale Shield games, finishing the competition’s highest scorer.
Key, who started every premier match, added another 47 points in the Jubilee Cup’s second-round.
Five tries are included in the nuggety mid-fielder’s haul.
Key was in his second season as a first-choice kicker, taking on the role in mid-2015 after Jordan Simpson-Heeft was injured.
Flanker Mitchell Markov and winger Selesi Rayasi were the side’s top try scorers with nine each.
Rayasi had an especially high strike rate after making a threetry premier debut in the 10th round of the Swindale Shield.
Markov, who is currently ranked first-equal in Wellington rugby’s Best and Fairest competition, was a stand out all season.
Hard on his heels was Daniel Schijvers.
The blind-sider scored seven tries as did three-quarter Max Pearson who missed several games through injurys and unavailability.
Two youngsters, hooker Josh Houston-Tupou and teenage firstfive Tynan Barratt were next with six tries each.
The Rams scored 76 tries across 20 games.
