More adopt bright colours

Hutt Valley Colour Day is working.

Sam McArthur, key account manager at The Hutt News, who created the event, said ‘‘a lot of friends and family say they think of me when they get dressed in the morning which sounds odd but it’s working; people are adding more colour to their outfits one day at a time’’.

Colour Day on September 1 was about encouraging everyone to wear something colourful, instead of black, grey or navy.

McArthur said the idea had made people think about the lack of colour in their community and they were wanting to make a change to their outfits.

Maureen Edhouse, the head teacher at Elizabeth Ave Childcare, is one of those who has embraced the idea.

‘‘I’m a bit of a bright person myself and I knew our kids would love it so we are going to get involved,’’ Edhouse said.

The staff were planning a lucky dip of what colour they would wear and they would split the centre’s roll into different colours.

The staff normally tried to wear bright colours as it stimulated learning.

Dressing up in colourful clothing could also win you prizes from Pita Pit.

Just click ‘‘Going’’ on the Hutt Valley Colour Day Facebook page and tag a friend and you will have a chance to win.

The franchisee of the Lower Hutt store, Grant Henderson, said the day was a great, fun initiative to welcome spring and he would be supplying his staff with colourful T-shirts.

’’Hopefully we will lighten a customer’s day,’’ he said.

Share your photos of your colourful outfits online on September 1 with the hash tag #colourhuttvalley.
