Upper Hutt Leader

Lights, camera and Santa action

-

Get your thinking caps on and let your creative juices flow because it’s time to start planning your float for the this year’s Upper Hutt Santa Parade.

With a ‘ A Merry Movie Christmas’ theme the parade will take place on Sunday 4 December, at 3pm.

Crowds of over 5,000 were on the Main St last year to enjoy the much-loved annual parade.

Floats could be themed as a classic Christmas film or a modern interpretation of how a nonChristmas movie might celebrate the occasion — the opportunities are endless!

A $1,000 prize awaits the float best reflecting the Merry Movie Christmas theme and there is also a $250 prize for the People’s Choice Award, voted on social media following the parade.

This year the public will again be entertained with a post-parade event at the Expressions Whirinaki Arts and Entertainment Centre with A Hollywood Christmas from 3pm to 6pm.

Here you can enter a silver screen inspired world filled with all the fun of the movies, including live music, Christmas acts, crafts and other yuletide treats and have your photo taken holding your Oscar with Santa.

The Upper Hutt Santa Parade is organised by Upper Hutt City Council and promoted by the Upper Hutt Leader.

More details and online registrations will be available on the council website in October.
