Upper Hutt Leader

BLAIR GRIFFITHS

-

Blair Griffiths is enthusiastic about the possibility of a second council term.

His first three years were both satisfying and a ‘‘huge learning curve’’.

‘‘It’s meant masses of personal growth for me,’’ he said.

‘‘There is a lot of time and effort involved, especially with the reading you need to do. That surprised me a lot and it only seems seems to be escalating.’’

His council term has seen work on big issues, including the new land use strategy.

‘‘The workshops are one of the things I enjoy, having the time to chew on the the details.’’

Griffiths set up his Upper Hutt business as a 20-year-old and today is the owner of Hillside Auto Wreckers, employing five locals.

‘‘I have an understanding of what is involved in running a business in Upper Hutt and how important it is to support our region and grow local business groups.’’

On improving retail in the CBD

The council can improve retail by continuing the economic stimulus package, the promotions running ie: March Madness and Spring Festival, working with landlords and tenants together, endorsing free parking and through publicly backing Upper Hutt businesses. We need to keep the city vibrant and inviting, with redevelopment and beautification and with more inner city apartment living. Great public transport and easy connections to all aspects of our great city.
