Buy cakes for Cyrus

- ABBY BROWN

Trentham School has had cakes ‘‘pouring in’’ for their cake auction to help the family of cancer battler Cyrus Taylor.

Kim Thorsen, whose son is in the same class as 10-year-old Cyrus, said she wanted to help the family so came up with the idea of a cake auction.

Thorsen has 25 cakes to auction tonight at the school.

‘‘We are going to have them up on the big screen when we auction them.’’

There are also raffle tickets on sale at the school, which will be drawn on December 13, or once all the tickets are gone. ‘‘They are selling fast.’’ The first prize is his and hers Michael Hill watches worth $600 and a $500 PaknSave voucher.

There are also gift baskets to win.

Cyrus was diagnosed in 2014 with an inoperable brain tumour and was flown to Starship Hospital in Auckland to undergo surgery to release pressure from his head.

Cyrus then had to learn to walk, balance, and write properly again and was starting to return to having a normal life.

However, in October 2015 an MRI revealed the tumour was growing and the decision was made to begin an 18 month course of chemotherapy.

Now 12 months into the chemo, Cyrus has had a rough time and at times missed a lot of school due to his treatment.

However, he has become an inspiration to many of his friends at school with his positive outlook.

The cake auction is being held at Trentham School tonight, November 30, at 5pm.
