Be proud of your success

- RACHEL GRUNWELL

Well done to everyone who conquered Cigna Round the Bays in Wellington on February 19.

You should be proud of your finish-line success!

It was incredible to see people of all ages walking, pushing buggies, runners of all levels and those inspirational Achilles charity athletes who inspired others by not letting any disability be a barrier to their success.

In total, 14,500 participants stepped up to the challenge including 9000 entrants in the 6.5km buggy walk, 3500 in the 10km distance and 2000 in the Achilles half-marathon.

Now is a good time to reflect on how you did and maybe treat yourself for achieving your goal.

Think about how you might do the event differently next year.

Will you do it solo, or convince more friends or loved ones to join you on this health journey?

Could you consider doing a different distance next time, or try to do the same distance a bit quicker?

Or maybe you could plan to walk it again to maintain your fitness.

Just choose a goal that resonates with you. It’s great to plan your next short-term health goal too.

Goals give you a purpose to keep up your training. I always have a next goal in mind so I keep up my fitness levels.

Personally, this event was super special because it was the first time my family had tackled a goal like this together.

I’m especially proud of my 11-year-old son Zach, who stepped up to the 10km challenge.

We did some training together, but it was his dedication with attending his intermediate school’s weekly distance squad runs that prepared him well.

Meanwhile, I hope to see you all again at this epic community event next year.
