WAIHI POLICE REPORT
Monday, June 22
Police attended a family harm incident at Kensington Rd. Witnesses report that a man smashed a vehicle window and a woman attempted to run him over in her car.
Another family harm incident was attended by police at Mackay St. A Waihi man and woman were fighting at a residential address. The man was arrested for assault, however, the woman later withdrew her complaint. The man was released with a five-day police safety order and a trespass notice.
A forbidden driver had his vehicle impounded at Silverton Rd after police stopped him for not wearing a seatbelt. He became abusive and failed to remain stopped which led to his arrest. He resisted police but was eventually restrained.
Tuesday, June 23
A Waihi woman was arrested at Albert St for assaulting her mother in relation to a historic family harm incident. She is charged with breach of a protection order and assault on a person in a family relationship.
A Hikurangi man was arrested and charged for disorderly violence in relation to rival gang members fighting at Seddon St on May 29.
A Paeroa man was arrested for breach of bail after contacting the victim of his offending as well as breaching a protection order.
Thursday, June 25
A single vehicle non-injury traffic crash at Pukekauri Rd. A Wellington man rolled his vehicle and crashed on a tight corner.
A two-vehicle moderate injury traffic crash took place at SH2 Karangahake. A vehicle heading south allegedly overtook on double yellow lines into the path of an oncoming vehicle. They crashed head on. Both drivers were hospitalised. Police are investigating.
A truck went over a bank at Trig Rd. Minor injury was suspected for the driver who was taken to a local medical centre.
Friday, June 26
A vehicle was broken into overnight at Evan St and a radar detector was stolen.
A blue Ford Courier ute was stolen from a driveway at Tatai Rd, Bowentown.
A Tairua man was arrested for trespass and threatening to bomb a hotel.
Sunday, June 28
The blue Ford Courier ute that was stolen on Friday was located down a bank crashed into a tree at Athenree Rd. The vehicle was damaged extensively.
Road safety message
With all the bad weather over the last couple of weeks there has been a noticeable increase in traffic crashes in the area. Particularly vehicles losing control on corners and sliding off roads. In wet weather remember the four-second rule, increase your following distance and slow down for corners.
