Winter WHITES

When the temperature drops and the evenings get darker, it can be tempting to match your fashion colour palette to the dark skies.

While rustic brown, grey, navy and of course black form the basis of a winter wardrobe, do not overlook white.

White is traditionally a summer colour, with crisp white cottons or loose linens providing a cool contrast to a tan.

But last year we saw winter whites on the catwalk and red carpet.

This year winter collections include shades of off-white and creams in wool, suede, silk and even soft leathers.

Designer Annah Stretton says the rules of wearing white in winter are a lot different than in the summer.

“It’s all about layering, fit and combining different shades of white, cream and even beige.”

You don’t have to go head to toe— instead, Annah suggests adding contrast with texture.

“Try dark jeans with a crisp white cotton shirt— and go smokey and dramatic with make-up.”

The Loobie’s Story winter collection includes white shirts and blouses which are given an opulent spin with detailing such as lace sleeves. Combine these with more wintery wool or suede for a relaxed glamorous look.

Winter white coats or jackets look dashing over black or navy. Or go for a structured cape like the Claire cape by Julien Danger. For amore casual weekend look, throw a Deborah Sweeney stone poncho over jeans.

Just add ankle boots and over-sized sunglasses for a straight-off-thepiste look.
