Good causes to receive thousands this Christmas

Twelve organisations in the KCE region will receive a share of thousands of dollars this Christmas in a first of its kind charitable initiative run by the electricity retailer.

KCE community relations manager Helen Peacock says the new initiative, which iscalled the 12 Rays of Christmas, is one for the whole King Country community to get behind this November and December.

“This Christmas, KCE is spreading a special $6000 donation evenly across 12 carefully-selected organisations from within the areas KCE operates as a way of saying thank you for their social contribution to our communities. That’s $500 per organisation,” Helen said. “During ‘the 12 Rays of Christmas’, which take place between 1 and 12 December, we will light our KCE Trees of Light in Te Kuiti, Otorohanga and Taumarunui in recognition of these organisations and their heartfelt efforts.”

She says the aim is to get the community involved in the giving too.

“As part of the initiative, we’re challenging members of the King Country community — individuals, schools and businesses — to join in the 12 Rays of Christmas by fundraising and making their own donation between now and the donation deadline of 12 December.

Recipients are: Taumarunui Community Christian Food Bank Trust (Taumarunui), Taumarunui Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (Taumarunui), Turangi River of Life Church Community Dinner (Turangi), Turangi Food Bank (Turangi), Waimarino Christmas Food Appeal (Ohakune), Angel’s Christmas Dinner (Ohakune), Altrusa International Club of Te Kuiti (Waitomo), Waitomo Waipa Women’s Refuge, Otorohanga Community Food Bank , Otorohanga Community Food Garden, King Country-based Fire Services (Turangi, Ohakune, Taumarunui, Te Kuiti, Otorohanga), King Country St John (Turangi, Ohakune, Taumarunui, Te Kuiti, Otorohanga).
