Hamilton City Council backs the proposal by Momentum Waikato for a new performing arts theatre in Hamilton.

Council will contribute a maximum of $30 million plus GST towards the new build, including any funding sourced from other Waikato councils or government sources and funds.

Council will contribute $10,000 towards the cost of the concept design.

There will be an agreement between council and Momentum, with a report to be made to council on February 27, 2017, with the agreement and concept design recommendation ready for council approval.

Staff will look at other options for the Founders Theatre building, and suggest options to council on September 29.
