Ranger fined
New Zealand Rugby and the Blues have started misconduct proceedings against Rene Ranger after a drink-driving incident earlier this month. The former All Blacks wing pleaded guilty in the Waitakere District Court on Wednesday to charges of careless driving and drink driving. He was convicted, disqualified from driving for seven months and fined $800. Blues Rugby chief executive Michael Redman said it was disappointing Ranger had offended. ‘‘We are disappointed in the poor choice that Rene made, especially for a player of his experience.’’
