Anderson to drive for Dolan

- JAMIE SEARLE

Addington winner Michelangelo and impressive Rangiora trialist Forgotten Highway are to race at Winton next Sunday.

Russley trainer Steve Dolan has booked junior driver Matt Anderson to rein Michelangelo in a C1 race. The winner, if driven by a junior, will not get a penalty.

Michelangelo won by three lengths in a maiden race at Addington on August 5 when having his fourth start. He has not raced since.

‘‘He’s still a bit green but the trip [to Winton] will do him the world of good,’’ Dolan said.

Castellina Lover’s fifth at Winton in March, 2012, marked the last time Dolan raced a horse at Winton. She won at Ascot Park two months earlier.

Sam Ottley drove the Dolantrained Dream Out Loud to win a junior drivers’ race at Winton in 2011, while the trainer’s former star, Franco Jamar, raced six times in Southland for five wins in the 2009-10 season

Franco Jamar won the Southern Supremacy Stakes in 2010 and was fifth in the 2011 Northern Southland Cup.

Dolan’s horses have race 15 times in Southland for 10 wins.

‘‘You’ve got to have the right type of horse to take down and that’s why we haven’t been down for four years.’’

Mitchell Kerr, who is training on his own this season after being in partnership with his father Paul, trains Forgotten Highway.

Paul, of Ohoka, is sending unraced 3-year-old filly Alta Teresa to the Winton meeting. Both horses will be driven by Dexter Dunn.

Mitchell trains a small team at Woodend Beach outside his work in John and Robert Dunn’s stable in North Canterbury.

Unraced Forgotten Highway led for the final 1300m in a C0 trial at Rangiora last Wednesday. He was not extended to win by one and a half lengths in 2:29.3 (2000m mobile), a mile rate of 2:0.1.

His last 800m required 57.5 and 400m in 28.5.

Forgotten Highway is a halfbrother to Three Ways who was second to Lazarus in the Victoria Derby in January.
