Soldiers’ bravery

-

I recently watched the Sunday programme on channel One. Four New Zealand soldiers serving in Vietnam saved the lives of two Australian soldiers who received serious injuries when their tank was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade.

Had it not been for the action of our New Zealand soldiers, those Australian soldiers would not have survived. Their bravery has not been recognised by the Australian or New Zealand government. What upsets me is John Key, our last prime minister, leaves parliament with hundreds of homeless people sleeping in shop doorways, under bridges and children sleeping in cars with their parents. House prices so high even a person on a good salary can’t buy one. What happens to him? The Australian government gives him honorary citizenship, our useless New Zealand government gives him a knighthood and, in the nine years as prime minister he manages to earn another $10 million. In the meantime, our three brave soldiers have died and got no recognition whatsoever.
