Hartley confirmed for Mexican race

- MOTORSPORT

Brendon Hartley’s Formula One career continues.

After moving up six places to finish a creditable 13th in his Formula One debut at the US Grand Prix, the 27-year-old from Palmerston North has been given a second chance to stake his claim for a long-term role with Toro Rosso.

Hartley has been named alongside Frenchman Pierre Gasly in the two-man Toro Rosso lineup for the Mexican Grand Prix, to be held at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez track next Monday (NZT).

Despite finishing 10th in Austin, Texas, to earn his first points since May, Russian Daniil Kvyat makes way for Gasly, who is returning after participating in the Super Formula season finale.

When looking back on his Formula One debut, Hartley hoped he would get a second chance to prove himself on motorsport’s biggest stage. ‘‘It’s all starting to sink in

now and it won’t be until I go to bed tonight and put my eyes at rest that I’ll start to process everything,’’ he said.

‘‘There’s been lots of challenges, lots of things to learn and I hope I get another shot at it to put all these experiences into practice.

I’ve enjoyed every single moment of this race weekend and I’d like to thank the whole team for this, it’s been amazing.’’
