Meth dealer blames the Mob
A drug dealer who led police on a high speed chase through the King Country, flinging drugs and other paraphernalia from his car on the way, has been jailed for two years and eight months.
When he was finally caught after his 47-minute, 107-kilometre flight from Te Kuiti to Otorohanga and back, Danny Jay Scott told police: ‘‘The dogs made me do it.’’
Those ‘‘dogs’’ were two patched Mongrel Mob members seen jumping out of the car Scott was driving early in the pursuit in the early hours of March 25 this year.
Scott, 26, was sentenced in the Hamilton District Court on Friday for possession of methamphetamine for supply, offering to supply methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine utensils and possession of cannabis.
In April he was sentenced to 100 hours community work and oneyear disqualification for dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and failing to stop.
The more serious drug charges took longer to go through the court system, ending up before Judge Philip Connell, who revealed details of Scott’s offending during sentencing.
It was at 1.37am when police spotted Scott and two others in the Nissan on Anzac St in Te Kuiti and attempted to pull them over. Scott instead hit the accelerator.
His path took him most of the way to Otorohanga and then back to Te Kuiti in heavy fog and at speeds of up to 150kmh. He crossed the centre line numerous times and cut across blind corners.
Police twice laid spikes but Scott drove on rims until he could not control the vehicle. As soon as he stopped, he was arrested.
Inside the car police found drug utensils, including scales. They also found a cannabis tinnie and five ziplock bags containing a total of 8 to 9 grams of crystallised methamphetamine, flung from the car.
An analysis of messages sent on his cellphone found that Scott had offered to supply meth on at least five occasions.
