❚ June 8: Simcock visits State Services Commission in Wellington to seek guidance about how to proceed.

❚ June 12: Simcock informs Director General of Health and the Office of the Health Minister about the concerns having been raised.

❚ June 19: Simcock engages an external employment lawyer to provide independen­t legal advice.

❚ June 19-30: Gathering of documents and informatio­n. Simcock briefs the chair of the audit committee.

❚ July 4: Simcock and chair of audit committee meet with Murray to outline concerns and seek feedback. Simcock reports to the remunerati­on committee by teleconfer­ence. The committee asks for further checks to be made before deciding next steps.

❚ July 17: Simcock and chair of audit committee again meet with Murray to get his responses to informatio­n gathered. Remunerati­on committee members again meet by teleconfer­ence and decide the full board should be briefed and should recommend a formal independen­t investigat­ion.

❚ July 19: Special meeting of the DHB board members held by teleconfer­ence with legal counsel in attendance. The board members delegate the remunerati­on committee members to commission an independen­t investigat­ion and oversee the process.

❚ Early August: External legal counsel instructs specialist barrister to carry out the independen­t investigat­ion.

❚ September 22: As part of the ongoing investigat­ion, the barrister conducting the investigat­ion presents Murray with a draft report which includes proposed findings and seeks his response. ❚ September 29: Remunerati­on committee, with legal counsel in attendance, is informed Murray has made an offer of resignatio­n. Legal counsel brief the committee on the content of the investigat­or’s draft report. The committee recommends that the full board accept Murray’s offer of resignatio­n with immediate effect, on the basis he agrees to repay all outstandin­g amounts.

❚ October 5: A special meeting of the board agrees to accept Murray’s offer of resignatio­n.

❚ November 3: Minister of Health launches new investigat­ion into Nigel Murray.
