Aussie wine recalled due to glass risk

- CHLOE WINTER

An Australian wine company is recalling 13 products due to the possibility of glass being found inside the bottle.

Warburn Estate is asking customers not to consume wine associated with its Rumours and Gossips labels.

Countdown, FreshChoice and SuperValue stores throughout New Zealand sell four of the 13 products.

Customers who bought any Warburn Estate wine between November 25 and December 6 have been asked to return it for a full refund.

Warburn Estate issued a statement saying consumers should not drink the wine as ‘‘food products containing glass may cause injury if consumed’’.

The recall was due to a packaging fault resulting in the possible presence of glass, it said.

Countdown said the wine company initiated a recall as a precaution.

‘‘[This was] due to a risk of the bottles breaking when opened, following an issue with the bottling equipment, which caused some damage to the bottles.’’

Countdown had not received any reports of injury. However, it said, any customer who had consumed these products and had concerns about their health should seek medical advice.

‘‘Countdown takes product safety very seriously and apologises to its customers for any inconvenience caused by this recall.’’

Supermarket chains owned by Foodstuffs, including New World, Four Square and Pak’n Save stores, did not stock the wine.
