English stupid says Vaughan

-

Former skipper Michael Vaughan has slammed the stupidity of England’s players in returning to the scene of the infamous headbutt greeting by Jonny Bairstow.

Ben Duckett was fined the maximum amount for an England A player (about $3000) and he will sit out that squad’s remaining fixtures on their Australian tour after he poured a drink over James Anderson’s head at the Perth bar.

Vaughan was staggered that the bulk of the squad went drinking in the bar on their first night back in Perth and the night their Ashes curfew was lifted.

‘‘To think you’ve gone back to the same bar where the Bairstow incident happened, the first night you’re back in town, it’s just stupid,’’ Vaughan told the Press Association.

‘‘You can’t fathom the mentality of a group of people who suddenly say ‘Right, we’re going out, we’ve found a venue, and you know what, we’re going back [to] the Avenue bar’.

‘‘You have one or two bad eggs and let’s be honest, they act like students when they go out, big trays of shots.’’

Vaughan said any players who brought the team into disrepute should be sent home, and was scathing about the excuse proffered that social media was responsible for these incidents reaching the public.

‘‘It winds me up when I hear this social media is the problem,’’ Vaughan said.

‘‘The perception of this England side is that they drink and party too much. There’s only one way to deal with it - don’t do it.’’
