Garden Place

-

As a resident of Hamilton for over 70 years I have witnessed the many faces of Garden Place.

I am appalled that our centrepiece is going to be disfigured once more – this time with a children’s playground.

There are excellent playgrounds for the young nearby at Parana Park, Hamilton Lake and Hamilton Gardens and one in Garden Place is totally unnecessary, and far from beautiful.

Let our city present a beautiful centre for all to enjoy and be proud of, [just] as European cities provide for their citizens with cafes and buskers, music and entertainment.

With the diverse culture or our present residents there is a wealth of talent we would love to share.

No cars, no playground, a safe place for pedestrians. There are plenty of car parks nearby.

We are all extremely proud of Hamilton Gardens where the expertise of Peter Sergel has shown we have a master in our midst.

Surely Peter could design at little cost to ratepayers a beautiful garden oasis using the existing gardens as a base – and getting rid of those ugly flower boxes which look like calf feeding stations.

With the planned new theatre and access to the river opened to beautify our city we need to continue this in Garden Place. It is called Garden Place – please make it a garden place to be enjoyed by all.
