Road safety

- Ron Farrar Huntly

With the latest road safety campaign on TV, I don’t know why this article has not had a follow up. In the Waikato Times of Friday, January 5, there was a photo on page 3 of a driver ALLEGEDLY on the wrong side of the road in the Coromandel. It was taken from a dash cam of the vehicle on the correct side of the road. What amazed me the most was the statement from police that they were unable to catch up with the driver. The number plate is as clear as a bell and I’m sure the original photo will give a good likeness to the ALLEGED driver’s face. I am wondering if this car had triggered a speed camera that the police would have trouble finding him, or can we expect on our next WOF check we get our name, address and phone number sign written all over the bonnet! Remember the saying a picture is worth a thousand words? Come on NZ Police, do the job we pay you to do.
