LUXE TO LESS

- Sinead Corcoran

When Dior’s slingbacks made a debut on the runway last year, the retro-inspired shoe was given a welcome revival.

Seemingly overnight, with ladylike pointed toes and “J’ADIOR” emblazoned straps, the style shook off their grandma image and gained a cult following, meanwhile fashion bloggers everywhere raced out to emulate the trend.

The reinvented silhouette has now cemented itself as a fashion staple and by pairing them with modern outfits you can avoid looking dated.

With just enough height to lengthen your legs, and more sophistication than a slip-on summer slide, they’re a welcome respite from exhausting stilettos and a perfect workwear option.

If teaming them with trousers, ensure they’re a cropped pair that show off your ankle and when wearing them with denim, opt for a wide-legged pair with a raw hem.

When coupling your slingbacks with skirts, go for pleated midis.

Stick to low heels in block shapes or delicate stems – they’re easier to wear and can transition your wardrobe through the seasons without ever looking too over-thetop formal.
